A Place to Call Home
Homeless and at-risk women and children
are denied the most basic privileges that most of us take
for granted. With no place to call
"home", they are forced onto cold, inhospitable
city streets to fend for themselves. To them, suffering
hunger, cold and fear are a part of daily life.
Now there is hope. The Georgia Travis Center is a place
that meets the most immediate needs of Santa Clara
County's homeless women and children...
...a place that provides a safe and caring haven where
women and children can receive support and a variety of
other services to help them sustain a more stable living
environment...
...a place where children are accommodated with a quiet
sleeping room, toys, diapers, formula, snacks, indoor and
outdoor play areas...
...a place to enjoy hot noon meals, take showers, wash
clothes, receive health care, and participate in
recreational activities.

Most guests at the Center are walk-in
homeless women with children who have heard of the
program by word of mouth or been referred by other social
service programs.
In addition to basic services, self-help workshops,
counseling and linkages to other community services are
provided with compassion and respect. Guests leave the
Center with the sense that someone cares.
Homeless women and children have special, urgent needs
and these needs are met at the Georgia Travis Center.
Guests are nurtured in an attractive, comforting
environment that offers peace and unconditional
acceptance.
At the Center, women help each other to regain their
personal dignity.
